The Eating Disorder Resource Center
November 2016: The Eating Disorder Resource Center in New York City has now closed.
In 1981, Dr. Judith Brisman founded the first center dedicated to the treatment of bulimia—The Bulimia Treatment Associates. BTA, based in New York City, was the first outpatient program in the country to develop specialized treatment for women and men who were suffering from bulimia. Over the years, BTA evolved and the Eating Disorder Resource Center was formed. EDRC treated a wide range of eating disorders, offering individual, group, family and couples treatment to those challenged by bulimia, binge eating disorder, anorexia and other kinds of body dysmorphia. Renowned for integrating a psychological understanding of disordered eating with direct intervention regarding food or weight related behaviors, EDRC provided individualized care and treatment planning in which patients were referred to independent therapists trained in EDRC’s treatment modalities.
In the fall of 2016, Dr. Judith Brisman closed EDRC to focus more fully on her private practice and evolving engagements, which have grown to include more speaking engagements and involvement in advanced training workshops.
